This stunning Meiji period tansu truly embodies the Japanese value of "wabi", or, a taste for the simple. Very clean, no frills hardware frames a beautiful deep brown wood finish that has a beautiful and subtle red undertone to it.
This particular tansu is a very nice in between size ideal for a small to medium space. Could work as a dresser, an entry table, or even a console under your television. The size is an unusual in between and ideal for a smaller space in need of big style (and storage to go along with it).
I have always found tansus to be a suitable fit for many design styles. One could work in with vintage industrial, boho chic, coastal, contemporary, or even in a mixed mid-century modern space. Was campaign style furniture inspired by tansus? We may never know, but these antiques are a classic and lovely piece to be well loved in your home for years to come.
DIMENSIONS: 35.5ʺW × 20.5ʺD × 36.75ʺH
With tansus, many of the imperfections in the finish are seen as character and patina. One drawers is separating from the side slightly and can be easily repaired. There are gaps in the drawer bottoms, the piece was made this way. A little decorative paper should solve an issue with gaps.
